SSHRC Proposal

I’ve had the chance to take a closer look at the winning SSHRC sample we were given in class and it seems well written and straightforward. The author clearly shows a vast knowledge of his chosen subject matter. He also clearly answered why this is an important topic to pursue and how his research will be relevant. This sample has led me to try to work out the kinks within my research interests so I can start thinking about how to write my own SSHRC proposal. I have been struggling with a couple of pretty broad research interests up to this point in time. And I have found this sample quite useful as an example of how specific we need to be in terms of research questions. One of the only things I would criticize about this proposal is that the research methodology is only vaguely discussed. The author states that he will be consulting various archives and also conducting interviews, however these two methodologies don’t seem to be inherently compatible. While those methods might be quite useful for his purposes the author does not delve further into why his chosen methodology will best help him find the answers he is looking for. Other than that one aspect which I feel could use a more explanation I have found analyzing this sample very helpful.
